Ent in Black Wood of Rannoch

Spending a week with friends in a holiday let at Loch Rannoch.  A wet day today, so went for a walk in the woods behind the house, Black Wood of Rannoch.  A beautiful old wood with lots of ancient looking Scots pines. It was almost cut down in the 1800's when a system of canals was built in the wood to ferry tree trunks down to Loch Rannoch and out to Perth along the river Tay. Fortunately the plan didn't work, the tree trunks either jammed in the rapids or floated out to sea.  

We decided this tree looked like an Ent, from Lord of the Rings. The extras are a close up of the bark on a Scots Pine tree and a lichen covered bush.
