Diary of an Edinburgher

DAY TEN (Sydney)

Another simply wonderful day - though a bit too hot for us peely wally folk.i used my new umbrella LOTS, but found that I really needed three hands…

Gill went off to work, JR went to the gym, and I pottered around in Gill's wonderful home, and then we went to the local, groovy cafe. JR popped in to the bank to try to organise moving NZ$$$ into Aussie $$$. More complicated than we thought, as ANZ Bank is NOT connected to NZ, despite the name...

We walked down to the ferry, and the very nice crew member let me stand on the front bit, and indeed took a photo of us. We walked along the wonderful waterfront, stopping every few minutes to take irresistable photos/selfies. Someone always offers to take one of you.

Although everyone has seen photos of the Opera House and harbour and bridge, when you're actually there, it's SOOOO impressive (even if you’ve been lots of times before…) had the good idea to walk on round through the park and go to the brand new Art Gallery. Turned out to a ridiculous idea. It was just too HOT, and I was just too stuffed within minutes, so we had to turn back. A stroll to the Rocks Area was also abandoned, as reality bit in: the heat and my complete lack of fitness.

So we got the ferry back to Balmain, where JR had a stroll though town, and I walked home past the Dog Park (no dogs) and had a sit down and a mango smoothie in the local cafe, because the walk home was uphill.

Then we had the most exciting evening at the OZHARVEST restaurant in Surrey Hills. And what a wonderful place it is. We had an amazing menu, no choice, vegetarian, no alcohol, and run by volunteers. What a treat it was. And such a worthy idea. Gill knows the woman who started it here. Check out the incredible menu in EXTRAS.

Just watching another couple of 'Muster Dogs' episodes - a perfect end to a perfect day.

Ps. The umbrella on the ferry was just while we were waiting - I had grabbed the best seat.
