Meghna

There were two, related reasons for me to take Dan back down to London, today. Concrete reasons, that is: there's also the pleasure of a few hours in the car with the little fella.

But the practical reasons were that he wanted to take some music hardware with him - guitars and amps - and I wanted to collect an amp of mine.

And as I was going down, I thought I'd take the opportunity to stop over and see my folks in Worcester Park.

The journey south was great: dry roads, clear weather, and a surprisingly low volume of traffic, and we arrived at Dan's place on Finchley Road in good time.

My brother, Wol, had come up to meet me, so he helped with taking Dan's stuff in and I lugged my (very heavy) amp out.

After we'd said cheerio to Dan, Wol and I drove the few miles down to Worcester Park, which took about a third as long as it took to drive from Kirkby Lonsdale to London.

And in the evening, we went out for a curry at Meghna with our mum and dad. It's been a long time since we did something where it was just the four of us, and, as Wol and I are considering a trip back to Hong Kong, which was where we grew up, the conversation naturally turned to our time living there.

I suppose it's the kind of thing we wouldn't have done if anyone else had been there, and we were free to chat about everything from our day to day lives, school, holidays, right down to minutiae like our cars' number plates (AW 5701 and BC 8673) and our phone number (97678). It was a lovely evening.

Today's Extra: me and Wol in Hong Kong, somewhere in the mid to late seventies.
