Here there and everywhere

The Calm before the Storm

This is the square where our Wednesday food market happens. On Wednesdays it's bustling with people and bursting with delicious smells and colours. But here, it was calm.

The atmosphere in our little studio in the afternoon was less calm when we discovered an unauthorised transaction of almost 700 euros in our back account. Bb blocked the card and called the bank, who noted it and said we'd have to call again on Thursday or Friday, once the recipient has actually received the money. Only then can they start the investigation process and, hopefully, return our money. This will no doubt be a process. We never let our cards out of our sight when paying here, made easier now that the machines are brought to the table. In fact, we tend to only use cards in places where we're regulars. We suspect a grumpy taxi driver, who didn't have change when we wanted to pay cash and then took a while to get his machine working etc. We're crossing everything that we get the money back. It's a horrible feeling when this happens.

We had pa na chapa (grilled bread?), coffee and orange juice for breakfast in Anita, on our street and walked up and past the little hotel which was our second home when we were doing up our studio here - now being made into little furnished studios. We walked past Stop Pontinho restaurant and I was sure we'd stopped here for a chat and drink on this visit, but Bb is convinced it was last year!!  We then both worked until the bank discovery. The bank calls etc took up most of the afternoon. We consoled ourselves with a pasta dish in La Trattoria for dinner.
