Fridge Magnets
One of the founders of the Arts and Crafts movement, William Morris (British, 1834-1896) created beautiful, handcrafted household objects that elevated decorative pieces to the realm of fine art. A prolific designer of densely patterned textiles and wallpapers, Morris used nature for his inspiration, seeking to "turn a room into a bower, a refuge."
The set of magnets features details from six Morris & Company designs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection.
Purchase, Edward C Moore Jr. Gift, 1923
The above is from the back of the box containing this set of fridge magnets, purchased the previous day at Hollander's Decorative Papers & Bookbinding Supplies in the Kerrytown district of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The arrangement captured the mood perfectly. It was also the Summer solstice, the longest day of the year.
