Pont Dafydd, St Asaph
TUESDAY
A bright but cold day.
Bishop Dafydd commissioned this bridge in 1630 to cross Afon Clwyd and for two centuries it carried travellers St Asaph linking the cathedral with St Winnifred's Well at Holywell.
The bridge was designed to carry people and horses but another bridge was constructed in 1840 to carry more heavy traffic.
In 1969 the River Clwyd was diverted when the A55 Expressway was built so the ancient bridge with its original cobble stones was left high and dry. The A55 is visible in the background.
