Population

The shortest day in the northern hemisphere, which in Tanzania means the longest day, even though in Zanzibar the difference between the longest and shortest days of the year is only around 40 minutes. A fun and surprising fact is that with its population of around 62 million, Tanzania is the most populated country that is fully within the southern hemisphere.

I had a Swahili lesson first thing on the balcony which was marginally breezier than within the bedroom. After that I took a long walk from Jambiani in a northerly direction up the beach to the neighbouring village of Paje, which is livelier and more clustered. Once there I basically moved between a succession of eateries to sample various drinks and fare, before catching a bus a few kilometres back in the evening.
