In Remembrance, War Memorial, Aylesford

Today was the first day, in what felt like a very long time ,where the sun appeared, even if was for only a couple of hours or so. It made all the difference, especially as I learnt today that it has been the wettest (and definitely darkest) autumn/winter in England and Wales for 130 years!
Me and my brother decided to go for lunch at out local pub and it didn't disappoint. We shared three starters and a pint each and it was just perfect. The pub was busier than usual for just after midday on a Saturday probably due to the fact that the lovely restaurant in our village, The Hengist, closed suddenly between Christmas and New Year with immediate effect. It was so sad to hear that the owner just couldn't make it work financially anymore (the rent was going to go up by over 30% and the local council decided to introduce charges for the village car parks). We have many memories of sharing birthdays, special occasions and Christmas Eves there. We will miss its' convivial atmosphere so much.
Today's shot was taken in my village churchyard at the war memorial for those who lost their lives during the Second World War. It's a very moving place to visit and the memorial also had tributes in the form of crosses and pebbles personalised by the local schoolchildren. It was so touching to see.
