The last tea of spring

Today we went to the stone circle in Stanton Drew. Quite a few people showed up, gathering especially right after sunset. Some Morris dancers came. As it was getting chilly, we made a move. Perhaps next time we'll have warmer clothes and will stay to see them welcome the summer.
We were also witness to an unusual phenomenon:
the circle was filled with cows (and cow dung); a man came in with his dog, which looked like an Alsatian shepherd, and sat on one of the great stones with the dog (obviously his good buddy). Most of the cows in the field, as if drawn by a magnet, slowly began to gravitate towards the man on the stone (and the dog). They were soon surrounded by quite a crowd of bovines. We concluded he must be their owner - it was still quite a sight. As he made his way home, followed by the flock of cows, the man replied to one of the Morris dancers: "It works in reverse; the dog should be chasing the cows, but they're the ones chasing her".
