Avon Gorge Panorama, as seen from Stokeleigh Camp
I had a nice walk today in Leigh Woods, with two purposes in mind: to see the Stokeleigh Camp, the remnants of an iron age hillfort and to see a view of the Avon Gorge from the other side of the Clifton bridge. Missions accomplished and quite happy to have done so.
This is a view from right next to the hillfort, in the direction of downtown Bristol. I wonder what the Dobunni Celts who lived here two thousand years ago saw from their fort, a few years before the first Roman envoys came to make them an offer they couldn't refuse.
Side note: apparently a prehistoric road ran from Stokeleigh Camp to Cadbury Camp near Tickenham, which I coincidentally visited two days ago.
