River Wharfe walk.
15 of us met at Burnsall for the first walk of the year along the river Wharfe. First stop the swing bridge at Hebden.
Over the bridge and a,OMG the other side of the river to Linton where we crossed the river again. This time the wooden bridge over the waterfalls. Because of all the rain we have had they were magnificent today. Such a wonderful noise as they cascaded over the rocks.
We then stopped at Linton church for our picnic lunch before walking across the fields to Linton village where we stopped again at the little stone bridge by the ford.
On to the small hamlet of Thorpe. Back across the fields and down a very tricky hillside path back to the river where we retraced our steps along the riverbank back to Burnsall.
7 miles. Weather wasn’t too bad. Felt quite mild and mainly very fine mizzle.
A very enjoyable walk and good company.
The roads weren’t too busy as a lot of the schools are still on holiday.
Now back home and after a cuppa I am going to have a good soak in a hot bath!
Forgot to mention that driving there a barn owl flew along side the car and then straight across the windscreen. Fortunately we were driving slowly. Certainly the highlight of the day.
