Val

This morning we went to Val’s funeral. All the 20 years I knew her she used a wheelchair due to MS. She was such a happy, stoical and clever woman much admired by all who knew her.

The service was in church - we’ve not been to many church funerals as mostly it’s been humanist ones people we know have chosen. There was only one hymn but many prayers. It was make personal by wonderful eulogies delivered by both her husband and 38 year old daughter. Such beautiful tributes to an amazing woman. But oh the church was so cold despite me wearing several layers and my big coat. We then walked over to the burial ground with Linda and Colin. On our way out we called at our friend Alan’s grave and also Linda’s first husband’s. He died 2 months after our daughter.

We then went to the golf club to share memories of Val with others and have refreshments. Emotional occasions are quite tiring but I must sort out trains for next week as my friend Jenny called today to see if I would go to stay. Her husband recently died and we were too ill with shigella to attend his service which we were really sad about.
