California Vacation ...
… Day 9: Final day.
In researching botanical gardens R found one that is located on the grounds of Palomar College. After a leisurely breakfast we headed over to the college to look for hummingbirds, etc. Unfortunately, we didn’t see that many birds … especially hummers.
On the way back to mom’s she took us by another park that’s close by … Woodland Park & Pool. We hit the jackpot here at this park! My main photo is a gorgeous black-crowned night heron! He/she was in the shade of some trees but allowed me to get quite close so I overlooked that little tidbit.
We enjoyed looking at all the birds at this park for a little while before returning to mom’s for lunch.
And then as if we haven’t already done enough we went back out! This time to Discovery Park … which was fabulous. There were lots of waterfowl and other birds. I’ve added an Extra with some of my other shots. Pictured clockwise from upper left are: A great-tailed grackle, American Coot, another shot of the night heron, male & female American wigeon and a ruddy duck. All very lovely.
We spent the rest of the day relaxing at mom’s and then packing up our stuff for our return home tomorrow.
We have had an amazing time here and really hate to leave. The weather has been simple gorgeous … shorts and tees were worn most of the time. But now it’s back to the rain and cold …
Backblipped: December 31 ... just in the nick of time!
