Why is it Everyone's Wearing Silly Hats?!

B and I enjoyed our annual Christmas day walk this morning.  While walking along the Esplanade at Sheringham we came across these beautiful turnstones with their attractive orange legs, looking rather puzzled.

There were quite a few brave souls taking a dip in the sea (see extra).  It wasn't particularly cold today but we were wrapped up in warm clothes.  I applaud their courage at braving the North Sea in December.  It was a good job they were wearing woolly hats!
