Terminal

Not what I was intending to blip today but it seems appropriate as we feel we spent most of the day in Heathrow Terminal 2 waiting for our flight to Frankfurt.

When I was working I used to fly occasionally with Sabena (Such A Bad Experience, Never Again as my Dutch colleague at the time used to say). I feel Lufthansa may have taken over their mantle.

We both had text messages at 3 am which luckily woke us up - our 1.30 pm flight had been cancelled. So in the middle of the night, half asleep, we had to rebook. We were offered 6.30 am (impossible), 10.30 am (difficult) or 4.30 pm which we had to go for. I managed to book the last pair of adjacent seats - by the emergency exits which we don't like as we like to keep our bags under the seat, but there was no other option. At least we had priority boarding as emergency exit seats to look forward to.

We set off for Heathrow in plenty of time and of course had a very easy journey, very light traffic apart from a bit of a hold up on the M25. I'd booked parking in the Meet & Greet section which for some reason was cheaper than normal parking when I booked it. So that went well too.

Things went downhill after that. We had trouble checking in our bags (for a moment I thought the new flight had been cancelled too). Security was pretty quick, though as usual mrsfb's hip caused a few issues with the metal detectors. Then our flight was delayed, then delayed some more, then some more as the day progressed. We eventually took off at 6.30 pm. In fact the 'later' 5.30pm flight left before our 4.30 pm flight. So about 6 hours in the airport, the highlight being the all day breakfast we had shortly after arrival.

When we arrived at Frankfurt there were further delays. No problems disembarking and going through passport control, but after walking what seemed like about 3 miles to get to baggage reclaim (Frankfurt is a big airport) it still took over an hour for our baggage to arrive.

Luckily our lift to Weinheim was waiting for us as we came out of arrivals. Daughter#2 was there too which was lovely. She had travelled to Weinheim from Munich by train as our son-in-law, although testing negative now, was still recovering from Covid and had decided not to drive. His best man stepped in to provide our lift.

We arrived at the hotel at 11pm. At least we got to our destination. There were some people on the delayed flight who had missed their connecting flights.

We feel a bit lost. Is it Christmas yet?
