Green heron

Today we bid farewell to The Turtle Beach Lodge.  An early wildlife spotting trip had been suggested, but when our alarm went off at 0530 we could still hear the heavy rain clattering on the roof of our room, so I switched it off and went back to sleep.
 
By the time we’d breakfasted and loaded our bags into the boat for the trip back to La Pavona, it had, temporarily, cleared up.  We were able to take our time over the early part of the trip.  After the heavy rain for the previous 36 hours, the water level in the canal, and then in the river, was visibly higher than on the outward trip.  E and our captain found us a good number of sightings.  Lots of herons, including the blipped green heron and a nesting green ibis (1st extra).  And a colony of roosting bats lined up on a tree trunk (2nd extra).
 
It then started to rain heavily again, and we had a certain time pressure to reach our bus, so the rest of the boat trip was taken at speed.  W and I were sitting at the front, and got quite damp again!
 
A long drive then to a coffee plantation, where we had lunch, followed by a tour to look at the various processes involved in growing, harvesting, and preparing the beans.
 
And so to La Fortuna, where we are settled for three nights.
