“Green” Mountains

We went for a wonderful walk this morning in the “Green” Mountains, so nicknamed because the numerous springs support shrubby wild growth and lush plantations. It’s a “cool” 24 degrees C on this Winter’s day so all the locals are wearing overcoats (what would they make of 12C on a “hot” Summer’s day in Greenland!). The building in the thumbnail is the newly built Summer residence of the Sultan of Dubai. It never gets above 30C here when it can get to 50C in the desert below, so there are a lot of holiday and second homes.

The first extra shows the irrigated terraces. The yellow/brown terraces are roses being grown for Rose Water.

The second extra is an old village abandoned in the 1980s when the government built a new village for the inhabitants in a more convenient location.

Third extra - sunset from our hotel balcony.
