It Gives Me Pleasure

The Thursday Gang Christmas Lunch.
I arrived at the rugby club early today, I needed to get the turkey, enough for 14 in by 9:30, this was followed quickly by the gammon and then at the prescribed intervals everything else so as to be ready for 1:00pm.
Meanwhile the diners started to arrive, noisy, happy and glad to see each other.
A little after the 1:00pm mark and following a toast to “Absent Friends” we ate. Old friends enjoying each others company, every other of my drinks was a ‘Thatchers 0’ and with. one glass of red wine it made it a real pleasure to keep my wits about me and enjoy the afternoon.

At one point I looked around the table, one confined to a wheelchair after a stroke, one lonely and caring for their partner, two with dementia, one with MS, another recently widowed with their daughter and one with PTSD but in that instant all were laughing, smiling and enjoying themselves, all cares and worries set aside if only briefly.

Never underestimate what putting your arm round someone and providing an ear to listen or some words of friendship can do.

A great day, I arrived home tired and content ready to enjoy tomorrow with Mrs S.
