Art Rock and Moorland
The sandstone outcrop of Simonside at its best in sunshine and wind. We spent the morning following the Art Rock Trail across the road at Lordenshaw to find the Cup and Ring Marks carved in the rocks in the Neolithic and Bronze Ages (see extra). A really good audio trail by the University of Newcastle gave some interpretation of them, but apparently no-one knows exactly why they are there.
