Lang may yer lums reek

Returning from an early morning foray into the city this morning I was greeted by this sight of serried rows of chimneys. While the greeting is more usual at Hogmanay it provides an apt title for the photo although in these days if smokeless fuel there is not much reeking.

Back home then down to church for a 10am meeting. As I got back the gas man arrived. After some discussions on whether we needed an electrician to test the circuits - and their one could not come before Christmas - we (I.e. they) ascertained that the boiler was faulty.

So now we wait to see if a new one can be fitted before Christmas. It would be very welcome!

This evening we were out at the Queen’s Hall, not far from the spire in the photo. The headline act was Alexis Ffrench supported by the Ayoub Sisters and a 9 strong a Capella group from St Andrews University (including Alexis’ son): The Other Guys. They were great (Scottish Champions for two years running) and the other performances were also terrific. I particularly liked the Ayoub Sisters’ Arabic pieces and Alexis Ffrench’s featherlight caressing of the keys creating a mood one could get lost in.

All the music was so well amplified I had to turn down my hearing aids. A very enjoyable concert.
