Colours on the hillside
Most of the trees in the village have lost their leaves now but the mountainsides still have plenty of autumn colour. It felt cold today playing tennis and there has been more snow on the tops so it is definitely winter. I did some more packing today and finished the book that Bernard gave me to read, Némésis by Philip Roth in translation. I very much enjoyed it but the conclusion is heartbreakingly sad. Is it strange that I always find it easier to read English books in translation than French authors. There must be a reason for that. We have set each other the challenge of reading books we choose for each other, in French for me and in English for him, which we read out loud when we meet up and discuss when we have finished them. It is an enjoyable exercise.
