Today was Election Day…

… for 8 Douzeniers and a Procureur of the Poor.
Douzeniers are Parish Councillors; so called because there are twelve (dozen) in most Parishes. A couple of large Parishes have more; I think St Peter Port has 20.
I’m not certain exactly what the Procurer does these days. About 30 years ago I was Procurer in Torteval and we were the first port of call for emergency funds but things have changed since then. But in the Constables Office the Procurer has a magnificent bureau with all the necessary paraphernalia.
