Interesting exhibition

Today we went to Den Bosch to see paintings by five generations of the Brueghel family. Starting by 16th century Pieter Brueghel the elder, followed by his sons Pieter Brueghel the younger and Jan Brueghel the older. Their children and (great)grandchildren were painters as well. The first Brueghel died young. His sons hardly knew their father. And his paintings were gone. What remained were sketches. The boys were guided by their grandmother and used the sketches as basis for study and made their first paintings after those sketches.

Besides a lot of paintings there were also some corners with stuff they used for their paintings, like collections of shells, butterflies and stuffed birds.

After the exhibition we strolled through the rest of the museum which was interesting as well.

In the extra a painting by Pieter Brueghel the younger.
