Look Out

Plastic

A blip for my record.

It’s bin day today. Or rather it isn’t. There have been no refuse collections since the beginning of October, excepting one week when we did have a grey (general) bin collection. It looks as if the strike by bin men is set to continue beyond Christmas. And so in response to jensphotos theme of something seasonal, this item - found in most people’s fridges - isn’t going for a recycle anytime soon, so is a seasonal artefact here for now.

I contacted the local newspaper today asking for more informed journalism because I haven’t understood what is going on. I know it’s about pay (wages have fallen by 25% since 2010), I know there have been national negotiations, I know strikes aren’t going on in other areas, and I know that the Council’s application to the High Court to deem the strike illegal failed last Friday. But what is it really about. To my surprise I got a helpful reply within half an hour, I was impressed.

I think that taking legal action to stop a strike is a bad move, whatever the outcome, it will impact on long term relationships. And recycling will have been abandoned by a lot of residents, it will take time to get rates back up again. Not good.
