Squirrel Drey

At first, we'd wondered if this was a pair of trousers that had been blown up into the trees over the school fence by the wind. This afternoon, I looked through a long lens and saw that it's composed of twigs woven together, so the only explanation is that it's a squirrel drey. 

There was one last year but this is rather bigger. We're puzzled as to why it's so high up in the tree. Squirrels obviously don't mind.

My reading suggested that only one squirrel lives in a drey but this looks big enough for a family. No wonder we have so many little furry creatures running around.
