Books and Football
This was going to be about the Booker Shortlist as the Winner will be announced tomorrow but I changed my mind. I may refer to it tomorrow or I may not. Suffice to say that the shortlist has been disappointing, but more for the books that weren’t there than the ones that are.
Anyway on a more positive note - here are three books that I can recommend. Of course Cuddy I have mentioned on several occasions - excellent book (why this wasn’t even on the Booker Longlist has baffled us all.)
I read Cuddy a while back and decided I needed to try some more of Bernard Myers’s other books. I can’t think why The Perfect Golden Circle passed me by last year, but I have now read it and loved it. Two men who create corn circles - if you like The Detectorists, you will like this.
The Offing I found on my bookshelf. I don’t remember buying it and I haven’t read it - no idea why as it looks so good. Perhaps that’s why I picked it up and then forgot about it. I’m loving it.
Meanwhile Gordon is in Carlisle at the football. A big day for Carlisle United as a buyer for the club was found a while back and today the takeover has been completed. It’s a Florida based family company and the whole family is very enthusiastic about it. Carlisle members and supporters are very happy. It all seems a bit strange, but then the whole idea of football is strange to me.
