The library

This afternoon I spent with my mother supervising her writing more Christmas cards! I'm hopeful one more session ( our third) will see them completed.
This evening it was the AGM of the Winchester GoLD charity. It is always a jolly evening with entertainment provided by the members who all have some learning disabilities.  Tonight they had a quiz, and sang and signed to three songs led by Steve (of Sign with Steve).
My blip shows Winchester library, now called the Arc, which is home to GoLD as well as housing a cafe, a small theatre, an  exhibition space and other areas for meetings.
The building was constructed in 1838, at a cost of £4000, to serve as the Corn Exchange. By early in the 20th century it was no longer in use as a trading centre and  became a cinema/ theatre/ dance hall until 1936 when the public library was moved there.
Behind the library is a small car park, underneath which is a series of tunnels, used in WW2 as public air raid shelters, accessed by stairs on the left of the photo ( now closed off by railings).
