Viburnum

This morning while having breakfast, I spotted a Grey Wagtail land on the netting  covering the  pond in  my Mum's garden. It spent some time methodically working its way back and forth, poking through the dead leaves caught in the netting, looking for titbits.  We were quite surprised to see  it so  far from a river, and wonder how often they visit small garden ponds. Later, I had a quick browse in the  garden and discovered flowers opening on the Viburnum farreri shrub. The flowers though small are very pretty and  highly scented.
We made  another brief visit to my aunt late morning before heading back to Winchester.
This afternoon we watched the live online feed of the Covid enquiry   where Professor Sir Chris Whitty was being questioned. There was clearly a huge gulf in the understanding of statistics, exponential growth, and how to manage a pandemic, between the scientists/ health experts and most of the government. Boris Johnson was described as having a "unique style" and seemed incapable of understanding the scientific facts he was given, however many times they  were explained to him. Was  Prof Sir Chris a bit naive in believing the government ministers, special advisors and senior civil servants would understand and act swiftly on the information he presented them with, without him spelling it out?  Of course, hindsight is a wonderful thing!
