Lighthouse, Cape Meares
The lighthouse at Cape Meares, on the Oregon Coast. We were able to go inside and take a closer look too. It reminded me of my blip from September of the lighthouse in the National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh. They must be pretty similar designs. Nearby the lighthouse is the Octopus Tree, whose branches they believe Native Americans weighted to grow horizontally for several feet before they grow upwards.
Earlier in the day, I was finally able to try out Western riding! I've done quite a bit of English-style riding over the years, but this was my first time using a Western saddle, and riding in Converse and with no helmet. I didn't have room to bring my cowboy hat, unfortunately. Some very kind friends of Cathy's let me ride one of their horses, called Cameo, who is a Tennessee Walker. We went along the beach and along some trails; it was all very relaxed and enjoyable!
