The Blade
Mrs L had a late afternoon appointment at the RBH in Reading so the spaniel and I dropped her off and went for a walk in central Reading. We aren't used to being in an urban environment and are not familiar with Reading but soon found ourselves in the 'Abbey Quarter'. I had no idea that Reading Abbey was so large. Founded by Henry I in 1121 it was one of the largest monasteries in Europe. Nine hundred years later and the Abbey's remains are overlooked by Abbey Mill House, better known as 'The Blade', the tallest building in the town.
