At the Game
Went along to see Spartans play top of the table Peterhead this afternoon. Early on Spartans tried to play more possession football while Peterhead were more direct, with high balls up to veteran striker Rory McAllister, and looked the more likely to score. They did indeed take the lead from a corner and were 1-0 up at half-tme. Spartans came into the game more in the second half as they started to play more probing long balls down the wings. Their equaliser from a free kick seemed at first to be an overhit free kick cross but then deceived the keeper and flew into the net. Both teams pressed for the winner and it was Peterhead that scored it, five minutes from time. Spartans created a great chance for a last minute equaliser but the player unmarked in front of goal failed to hit the target with his header.
I went on to a Scottish Book Week / Nutmeg magazine event at St Johns on Princes Street. Good to meet Nutmeg editor Ally who I have exchanged many emails with discussing my articles but never met in person before.
