Scripps pier, La Jolla Shores

Firstly thank you all for your enthusiasm for yesterday’s Oceanside pier sunset blip. It’s the first time I’ve been in the top ten most popular, albeit at No 9. Thank you especially to all of you who gave hearts, I hope to get around to thanking you.

For many of you it brought back memories from your own visits to the west coast of America or seeing the sun set over the northern Pacific or the Southern Atlantic.

As we had time to ourselves today we travelled south to visit the Birch Aquarium at La Jolla Shores. Birch Aquarium is part of the renown UCSD Scripps Institution of Oceanography: https://scripps.ucsd.edu/

Todays blip shows Scripps pier being enveloped in banks of coastal fog which ebbed and flowed throughout the day leading spells of warmth and coolness.

Fascinating exhibits, aquaria and sea creatures tinged with the sad understanding of the fragility of their world as their habitats are being destroyed by the actions of mankind exacerbated by climate change. The sea dragons (extra) stole the show for me even though the jellies were mesmerising. Sea Dragons look like a fantasy creature, the sort you might find in a children’s book.

We went to Madison’s second first birthday party at her mum’s this evening. Another Smash Cake was, well, smashed and smeared all over hands, face and clothing.
