Remembrance Sunday
Over the last months I have settled into a whole series of routines. An almost daily one is a morning walk to the local shop to buy a newspaper. Although I subscribe to the daily downloaded version, and the printed version at the weekend, J much prefers the printed daily version, not only to read, but also to do the supposedly “Quick” (“Speedy” on a Sunday) Crossword. (which we finish off together). And I like the short walk in the early-ish morning.
Next to the shop is the local church, a modern building. I have never been inside, but it seems to be well attended on Sundays. And today being Remembrance Sunday it seemed appropriate to blip this part of the front of the building, which happened to be just before the 10am service.
Remembrance Sunday is a tradition that commenced a few years after the end of the First World War, the “War to end all Wars”. As we know, and any glance through the first few pages of the newspaper attests, War did not end with the carnage those first Remembrance Sundays reflected on.
