Between fen and mountains

Carillon

This chiming clock or carillon as the French call them, belongs to my Breton sister-in-law. This is the second one I have repaired for her, both family heirlooms dating back to around the 1950's and I demonstrated how the chimes functioned before I left. It was nice to be able to repair it for her yesterday to thank her for her hospitality. The chimes have a beautiful tone and there are two tunes, Westminster and a French variation that I have not heard before.

The journey back from the Paris region was not hindered by strikes fortunately but it was quite tiring as it involved four train journeys and our local bus to get home. Driving is certainly more expensive but I am not sure it is more tiring.

I hope you are enjoying a good weekend.
