A bit glum!

I think Reg is as fed up with the constant wet days as I am. Despite being dried after every visit outside I think he's feeling the cold and wet much more as he's got a bit older. I have turned his reversible blanket to warm side up and I've also been throwing a little fleece over him later in the evening. Not sure he's grateful!
I spent the morning in Hexham to get my hair cut and do a bit of shopping. A 50% successful trip as the hair cut was good but I was unable to get the two things I was looking for at the shops. One I can easily do online but the other was some felted wool slippers which I wanted to try before I buy, just for sizing. It's such a faff to buy online then disappointing to have them not fit and making a return.
The journey across was also dreadful. It rained the whole time and there was so much water lying on the roads it was quite unpleasant in places to drive through. I'm not confident driving in bad weather conditions and was so relieved when I got home safe and unscathed!
During the afternoon I hade a lovely long chat to an old friend on the phone. I also made a repeat of the gluten free apple cake for a friend but am disappointed that the top is still sticky and I'm not sure how it will cut. My trial run with it seemed much more successful. I was wondering if I should pop it back into the oven for a while. Any suggestions from cake bakers out there?
I've started knitting a hat, called the Downton and my small circular needles arrived today so I have been able to crack on and will hopefully be finished in the next week.
Another positive day!
