Last Leaf Standing

If today’s rain is a precursor of what’s to come with Storm Ciaran then Heaven help us! I sat as long as I could with my coffee and book (Lessons by Iain McEwan) before venturing forth for milk. The timing was not good. Not only was I wading through puddles of water, I was sharing those puddles and the aisles of the corner shop with the droves of local school pupils out at break . At times the sky seemed to merge with the earth and it was almost dark.

I was relieved to see a slight lightening of the skies at lunch time and thus emboldened I escaped to try and find some glycerine. Yes I am going to make my own icing for at least one of the Christmas cakes which means instead of a neat smooth surface, it will look like a badly trampled snow field. However I think it will taste better.

I got back just as the heavens opened again.  I managed to get this blip to show the only leaf left on my Virginia creeper after the wind and rain of the last two or three days.
