Survivors

Since the October Pink Challenge began in 2012, I have posted a picture of breast cancer survivors on the 30th or 31st of October. Today is my day for 2023. :)

Admittedly, the picture was taken earlier as SweetArt is in it. I shot it on 17th October when Sandy bought us coffee after our Biker's Cafe lunch. The table had a notice about Breast Cancer Awareness, so I planned for today's blip.

As many of you will know, breast cancer is one of the most curable cancers if it is detected early. The strides made to treat this far too common disease in the last few decades are phenomenal. Cancer is no longer a death sentence, though I am well aware that tragically, that isn't everyone's story.

When G was diagnosed (at Stage 4b), the doctor started her on a course of treatment that saw her tumour shrink to nothing in just a couple of weeks. All her subsequent treatment (mastectomy, chemotherapy, radiotherapy) was to make sure that it never came back again. Eleven years on, she is in great shape and has more stamina than me!

SweetArt was diagnosed with Stage 1. I think she had a similar cancer to G's. Thankfully, chemo wasn't part of her treatment, but she had to go through radiotherapy. She came out fine, partly thanks to Lavylites mehopes! She's still got a lot of energy, though the post-cancer meds are slowing her down. She found the heat of Dubai unbearable at times. (You'll have to go through my journal to read about what she got up to while she was here).

Both Sandy and G coped well during our mad trip to Lahore ten days ago. A whole night travelling with barely any sleep after a long and busy day, and then into a full day touring the city and meeting relatives. It didn't stop there because we kept going after landing back in Dubai. Not bad at all to my two excellent sisters and super travel buddies.

As for the day; a new work-week begins. G set off early and didn't return until nearly 3 PM! Yikes! I thought she was going to have shorter days. I ensured there was something for her to eat when she walked in. :))

We had to drive to the airport to sort out the hire car. I've renewed until the end of the week. No further updates from Peugeot as to when we will get the car back. They said today.

As we were "in the neighbourhood", we called in at ACE and then Carrefour in Festival City. Grocery shop done. We're good for a couple of weeks. :))
