I guess it's raining. All over the world
This morning we awoke.with a list of things to do.
As we sat with breakfast we heard a strange noise.
Tooli.jumped up and cheered 'its.raining'
Five.minutes and thirty droplets of.rain later the rain was over and we headed out to the 321 Sports Museum
When qataris do museums they do them so well.
We.got our tickets; Tooli didn't have to pay as she is a resident. Take the lift to the seventh floor she said; when you are finished you will be at the second floor.
Up we went and started.
What an array of things they have. My favourite (see extra).was a room full of Olympic torches .
They had a range of interactive displays which made us howl with laughter and an hour and a half later we were ready for coffee
That is when the problem began
It was raining when we arrived in the cafe and as we sat to watch this unusual Qatari event the lightning started. The rain got heavier ; the football stadium which we could see across the street disappeared from view.
The rain got heavier still and water started to.pour down the windows and then there was a gush as water started to.pour in the door to the balcony
I went outside and looked over the stairwell to the ground floor. About fifteen men were frantically brushing with squeegees trying to shift water from the building
Returning to the cafe we watched in horror as trees began to.uproot and fall over
We.contemplated what to.do. Half an hour passed and it was still raining
After listening to a group of six children scream 'we're all going to die' Tooli decided to.try and get an Uber
Amazingly one arrived within five minutes and we dashed from the museum to the waiting car skidding on wet marble all the way
The Uber driver was squealing. How shall I get out. Two of the exits were under about three foot of water and as we drove round the Aspire Park the rain slowed and the sun came out
We found an exit and joined the slow movement of traffic which was completely flummoxed about driving in the rain
Our driver didn't even know how to turn on the demister. We were driving with all the windows open so that he could see
We were thirteen kilometers from home
Those thirteen kilometres took us four and a half hours and the driver getting out on a side road to have a poo in a bush
I think he might possibly have given up driving after tonight
We were always so very close but could not get out due to the depth of the water
In Tooli's estate eight of the apartments were under five foot of water children were being brought out on shoulders
Tooli's flat was completely safe. She had been petrified that the windows would have given - our suitcases were under the window. But not one drop of rain
All her friends came to call when we arrived back - how.lovely that was that they all so obviously cared
At ten thirty we got a take out delivered and since we hadn't eaten since breakfast and the last drink we had went to the taxi driver. We were starving
What an adventure
