Christopher Columbus

We are on holiday in the Cinque Terra region of Italy and came across this statue of Christopher Columbus in Santa Margaretta on the Italian Riviera.

Apparently he was born in this village but left at some stage and went to Spain.  There is a link as we also saw the monastery near Isla Christina  in Spain where he spent time preparing for his famous voyage of discovery.
