Fence vs tree
The final part of the fence was put up today but they got to the corner where the ancient beech tree stands and then we got into a big debate. Do we just use the tree, part of an old hedge line I think, as part of the boundary? Or do we route the fence where the old sagging wooden bit of fence had stood. We decided to finish the fence. Still our fence builder was a good gardener and tree expert so I learned a lot about why limbs fall off trees.
Glorious sunny day. Woody and I tried a new route to the paper shop which involved a set of footpaths the other side of Rogate road that I’d only walked on with a local, V had given me instructions but suffice it to say I got beautifully lost. Still it was lovely wandering round the woods, or was that someone’s garden?
I made a chestnut soup from Moro for lunch which I’d intended to make with but the time it takes to roast and peel chestnuts means that it needs to be a longer term project. We have so many in the woods and quite a lot in the garden from one tree.
I made a quince and apple crumble, both recipes now in Paprika my recipe saving app, for dinner and that was more successful.
V’s friend John arrived from a holiday in Paris and France. He’s planning to stay the week which will be lovely for V as I am going to London. I went to the barn to do some viewing for the late afternoon and then came out to potter round the garden a bit. So lovely to have a dry and sunny day after all the rain.
