Beach, Port, Sculpture

A clear, fine day, so this afternoon we took ourselves to Crosby beach. We only got half way along the promenade - one material J’s scooter cannot handle is sand, and a section of the prom was covered, presumably wind blown by Storm Babet. But that was fine, we turned around, J just really enjoyed the light and the fresh air, and the time spent there was just about right.

I like the juxtaposition of the beach with the Port of Liverpool, with a distant view of the Liver Building. This whole area lies not in Liverpool, but in the Borough of Sefton (I worked here many years ago, lots of good memories). I always think the figures on the beach with the industrial backdrop look a bit “Lowryesque” from afar. Anthony Gormley’s sculptures aren’t always obvious from a distance, they mingle with the people doing their thing around them.
