Next to last
Since the first time we stayed in Hythe we have been visiting the fourteen Medieval Churches of Romney Marsh, one or two each time we are here. The leaflet listing them and the book I bought on our first visit have been a good record but are now falling apart with use. As we don't now know when we will be back, I decided I wanted to try to see the last two.
So, here is one of them - St Nicholas, New Romney.
This dates from the 12th century when New Romney was one of the Cinque Ports and a very important and thriving one too. Hence the size of the church - its impressive tower is best seen in the extra photo taken from the Old School across the road. This is now a Heritage Centre with a rather lovely garden.
We had a lot of rain this morning but a fine and sunny afternoon. And the sea is a lot calmer now.
