Day 26, Saint Chély d’Apcher to Dole

The day started after a quiet and restful night at Saint Chély d’Apcher. There was a toilet emptying spot but no water for rinsing the empty box so we fetched water in bottles from a spring in the corner of the car park! It was labelled “Source”, and emerged from a pipe, emptying into a large stone trough.
It was strange to have continuously appearing water, and no tap to turn off. Walking away leaving the water pouring out seemed unnatural! It tasted fine so we filled our drinking water bottles too, with no ill effects.
We ate a fine lunch at a picnic table (pictured here) outside the village of Le Donjon. Eating outside in the sun in October seems a real privilege. We eventually stopped for the night in the city of Dole, which offers free overnight parking in its centre. We parked right on the riverside, in that central car park.
We wandered the city streets and found restaurants that were open but ended up at a fast food kiosk that seemed busy, with a queue outside. A good choice - the food was delicious!
We’ll return tomorrow in daylight and take another look at things, maybe eat breakfast out…
