Homeward bound......
A touch of frost this morning. Autumn is definitely here.
Dry and sunny with a brisk chill breeze. Spent the morning loading the grain dryer with some barley ranging from 20-24% moisture . The batch had fairly shrunk by the time it was dried down to 15%.
Wee brother managed to get the last bit of barley cut,so that's us officially finished. It's been a long slog. Hopefully it will stay dry for a day or two to let the straw wilt enough to bale. There is so much grass in it that it looks more like a silage field !
I baled the 20 acres of now very weathered straw that was cut nearly a fortnight ago. It's only fit for bedding, not helped by the amount of geese that have been paddling around the field for the last few days. There must have been in the thousands last night at dusk. The field was blue with them.
This was me bringing the combine home to the shed having survived another year, not bad for being 36 years old. And just to cheer me up even more, both neighbours were still cutting tonight.....
