Roman Theatre
M sent this photo of one of the many sites he is visiting in southern Turkey. This is the remains of a theatre.)
This afternoon I met this gorgeous poodle, Lulu, in my favourite charity shop in town. ( see extra).
She is from Glasgow and on holiday with her owner in the area.
Once upon a time, during the Victorian era, Bridge of Allan was famous as a spa town noted for the healing recuperative power of its waters, fresh air and bracing countryside walks.
Among regular visitors during his childhood and early years was Robert Louis Stevenson .
The area held a particular fascination for RLS. He once wrote to a friend:
“I shall never forget the days at Bridge of Allan; they were one golden dream”.
His health was poor, and his family believed the recuperative quality of the waters and surrounding area would help his consumption, or TB as we know it.
Today the attraction are the shops, eateries, pubs and hairdressers. And of course, the burgeoning posh charity shops. So far, we have three.
