The cabin is now back in proper use!

The cabin in the garden next to the patio became rather underused as for some time we’d been using it as a storage area, which meant it became untended and cluttered and then rather overrun with spiders and plants.  Woodpeckers offered her help and so we both piled in to the problem, and have made a first stab at sorting it out. Some weeks ago I brought all the potted plants out onto the patio table where they were able to get some late summer sunshine on their leaves without burning them up, and they had several good washes from the rain and finally a hose down by me.

Woodpeckers cleared out extraneous stuff, and then thoroughly cleaned the windows whilst I brushed out cobwebs, ladybirds, and centipedes before hoovering the whole area. Today I brought back the plants and took some snaps. We can b]now enjoy the place as we intended when we had it built from scratch about twelve years ago. I’d found the four Cedar wood window frames in a skip in Minchinhampton, and we lined them up on the ground and imagined being able to look out of them with the wonderful views across the Golden Valley. Once that was done John W. and his son Joe began the construction from scratch with new double-glazed units in the cedar frames, a nearly antique recycled farmhouse door, also with double-glazed inset panes, and mains electricity.

Now we can sit out and enjoy the gardens views, despite the overgrowing of the neighbours trees and shrubs, which now are rather blocking the views across the valleys, except  when the leaves have all fallen in autumn and winter. The cabin warms very quickly and I can over winter many tender plants in there frost free. We’re very pleased to regain the space, though more clearing out needs to occur from behind my camera position.

Nearly twelve years ago .....
Both the plant in the middle of the scene and the one on the right are still going strong!
