Calke Abbey

On a magnificent morning.

They were repairing the road at the main entrance and the grumpy workmen were handing out bits of paper to surprised motorists, apparently sending them round to the exit. Result : I had this wonderful place almost all to myself.

The gardens were lush and full of amazing produce. They’ve loaded the little theatre with more squash, zucchini and marrows than any of us could imagine. This little visitor was quite amazed.

And I was even able to treat myself to a hot chocolate as there was no need to queue (usually making refreshments an impossibility for me.)
