Knockout Noto

I had a restless night as we ended up sharing our new room with several pesky mosquitoes. Sadly they chose to bite me rather than Mr P.
Off to Noto today, a place that was
conpletely destroyed by an earthquake in 1693 and rebuilt in a Baroque style of architecture on a new site, about 10km from the old centre. It’s considered to be one of the most beautiful towns not just in Sicily but in all of Italy and I can understand why. It was picture postcard gorgeous and also surprisingly tourist free, although we did visit relatively early on a Monday morning. Once we’d thoroughly explored the town and climbed up the very narrow bell tower, we headed off to a nearby wild beach for a swim and a picnic lunch. After lunch we drove back to our guesthouse and spent the rest of the afternoon by the pool. Most of the time we had it to ourselves. It felt good to relax after so much recent sightseeing.
