Drips
The Weekend of Rain got off to a slow start, after a pretty exhausting Friday. I decided not to bother with a peloton workout, but rather to walk (briskly) through the rain down to the market to buy some baked goods and then get a bus into town to go the open day. I bumped into meles at the market, just as she was taking her blip. Although swathed in rain gear, there is no mistaking a blipper who takes out her camera in the rain to get a picture.
Whilst waiting for the bus, I met a colleague, with a friend of his, who was on his way to work. There's no getting away from them! I also saw another colleague in Domenicos on Friday night, who was just leaving the restaurant as we arrived. The colleague on Saturday doesn't even live in Leith, but had come to our hipster township for a coffee with his partner and this friend before heading in to town. Although the bus took an age to get to Old College, it was a pleasant journey with much chat and a bit of "getting to know you".
Safely in the warmth of OC, I was kept pretty busy for my 75 minutes or so of duty, talking to prospective students and their families about our degree programmes. An interesting mix of people, which rather faithfully reflected the diverse communities we now find amongst our undergraduate students.
On return home, the doors were closed and later the curtains pulled as early as was decent. No night for going out. Instead we watched the Ireland v Scotland rugby match from Paris, and the first part of the Olusoga documentary on The Union, which was interesting.
My blip shows a serious road testing of my new Seasalt raincoat. Definitely a good buy and pretty much waterproof and not too sweaty inside. Stylish too. Having goretex lined shoes was also a boon today.
Will it ever stop raining?
