A time for everything

Tree roots

We are in Hocking Hills in South-eastern Ohio, camping for the weekend, belatedly celebrating Roger's birthday. We came down yesterday late afternoon/evening, and Laura and Jen came yesterday too, while Jason joined us late this afternoon, as he was working in the morning. This morning, since we had two cars with us, we parked one car at Old Man's Cave, then drove to Cedar Falls, and walked the three miles to Old Man's Cave. The path follows the stream and is really scenic, and for the most part really quiet, as most people take their cars from one to the other. We passed several other walkers, but at times all you could hear was the sound of the water and birdsong. After a picnic lunch at Old Mans Cave, we headed back to the campsite, partly to leave the spare car there, and partly as we knew that near the campsite office Jen could get cell phone coverage (we couldn't - cell phone coverage is rather tricky around there!) so that she could contact Jason and let him know where we were going for the afternoon so he could meet us. Anyway we had decided, since we have been to Hocking Hills numerous times, and walked most of the main trails several times, we would go somewhere we hadnt been before, and that was Clear Creek Metro Park, between Logan and Lancaster , on the road to Columbus. It is one of Columbus and Franklin County Parks, even though it is almost an hour away from Columbus! We ended up walking about another four miles in the afternoon, quite a bit more than I had reckoned on, and the first part was pretty much straight up hill. The track then followed along a ridge, but all you could see was trees and more trees, so it wasnt the best of trails, though the later part was better. Most of my photographs for the day, however, came from the morning, including this one.
